National Museum of the Great Patriotic War in Kiev opened 17.10.1974, entitled "The Ukrainian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War - 1941-1945."
The memorial museum complex was opened in 1981, and in
1996 the historic complex was given the status - National.
The memorial complex is located on the territory of 10 hectares on a hill near the Caves of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

The main building of the museum is located inside the pedestal under the monument of the Motherland.
World War II Museum
The largest museum of the Great Patriotic War in Ukraine, and exposition of the World War II, placed under 62-meter sculpture "Motherland" monument.
The museum collection contains over 300,000 museum
objects from the Second World War, which are located on five
thousand square meters of the museum.
In the museum are a lot of trophies German troops, as well as clothing, symbols, weapons and uniforms of Soviet soldiers from World War II.
The museum is divided into themed rooms and exhibition, which presents the exhibition City of Heroes: Stalingrad, Kursk, and Sevastopol, as well as thematic expositions of the concentration camps and partisans.
Two halls of the museum are marked by a thematic exhibition of the later period - the War in Afghanistan and other military conflict which involved soldiers of the USSR. The exhibition contains less than 1,000 exhibits.
Part of the National Museum of the Great Patriotic War is an open-air exhibition of military and military equipment.
Special areas in the open air for a review of the visitors are: the tanks during the Second World War, guns, gun salvo of Stalingrad Battle and defensive armor that was used during the liberation of Kiev from Nazi occupation.
A separate exhibition area outside the museum are more recent examples of Soviet military equipment: jet fighter "MIG" and helicopter MI-24.
The museum offers tours that are educational programs for
schoolchildren and students.
Special tours are offered during the holiday - Victory Day (May 8).
The museum offers a special entrance fee to the very top platform of the monument "Motherland" - on a shield. During the tour, accompanied by a Professional Guides (climbers), which help to climb to the observation deck after climbing at a special service elevator.
The pedestal of the sculpture "Motherland" - a height of 40 meters, it is a museum. The sculpture to the upper edge of the sword - 62 m, total height - 102 m, the weight of the monument - about 500 tons. The observation deck is located at a height of 76 meters.
National Historic complex - "Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War in Kiev" - is today a leading research center, as well as the methodological and cultural and research center, includes operating research and production units that produce for a long time the restoration work under the order.
