Shevchenko National University

Kiev's Shevchenko National University

Has been build in 1837-43 in the Russian Classicism Style. Until its completion, the Kiev University founded in 1834 operated in rented premises in Pechersk. The red color of the facade, black details of the columns and cornices correspond to the colors of ribbon of the Order of St. Vladimir's whose name was originally assigned to this educational establishment. Since 1939, renamed in honor of Taras Shevchenko.

In 1839 opened the first botanical garden in Kiev, which was owned by the Botany Department of the University.

Having walked one block to the left from the University on Shevchenko Blvd., you will see the domes of St. Vladimir Cathedral.
