Church of the Tithe

Kiy city, Citadel

This 2-hectare area is considered the cradle of modern Kiev. Legendary Kiy is believed to lay down his fortress in that place. The appearance of the city of Kiy is usually dated 5th-6th cent. The museum's area also covers part of the city of Vladimir whose territory was incorporated in the citadel after the foundation of the city of Yaroslav the Wise.

In the part of the Citadel now occupied by the state museum you will see contours of basement of first stone palace of the Prince of Kiev, the Tithe Church of the Mother of God - the first stone temple in Rus, Stone-monument which is mentioned in the chronicles - which is engraved the inscription: place the beginning of the Russian lands, a pagan Ruthenian temple and many other ancient things.

After passing through the territory of the museum you can visit the landscape Alley located on the edge of the Old-Kiev hill.
After a tour of the museum should go back to Andrew's descent and visit St. Andrew's Cathedral, the Castle of Richard Lionheart, Bulgakov museum, go to a museum dedicated to Andrew's descent, buy national souvenirs and go down to the lower city - Podol and Kontraktova square (transl. Podol - Hem of city).

How to get there: from Independence Square subway station - one stop on the trolley bus number 18, or from the Metro (Subway) Kontraktovaya, up Andrew's Descent.
